Started 20 OctHawthorn Road

Available spots

Service Description

Monday evenings 7:30-8:30pm No prior experience necessary. The Mishnah is one of the oldest rabbinic texts. It is beautiful and dense, technical and poetic, and it forms the bedrock on which the Talmud is built. In each session we will try to cover a complete chapter of Mishnah, beginning with Tractate Bava Kamma. No knowledge of Hebrew or prior experience studying Mishnah is required. Please note that you don’t need to commit to all the weeks of the course to sign up. You're welcome to register even if you're just interested in trying it out — the process is designed for your convenience. About the facilitator: Raphael Dascalu is a Melbourne-based researcher and translator. Born and raised in Sydney, he completed his MA at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, his PhD at the University of Chicago, and studied in a number of institutions of Jewish learning, including Yeshivat ha-Kibbutz ha-Dati (Ein Tzurim), the Pardes Institute, and the Shalom Hartman Institute. He is an Adjunct Research Associate at Monash University, and a student of the mysteries of the cosmos.
